Let's begin by uncovering the essence of "Pungko Pungko." It's a Cebuano term, rooted in the Visayan language, depicting the art of dining while squatting. When you partake in Pungko-pungko, you gracefully perch on low benches, assuming a humble "bow down" posture while indulging in your meal.
Having resided in Cebu, Philippines for nearly four years, I was introduced to this unique gastronomic tradition. Pungko Pungko stalls are a top destination, attracting not only locals but also curious wanderers. When you meander through the streets of Cebu, you'll discover their reputation for offering delectable fare at pocket-friendly prices, often featuring an array of mouthwatering fried delicacies.
Let's talk about how the newly opened PUNGKO PUNGKO in Cagayan de Oro was created.
Upon learning about their forthcoming soft opening on February 1st, 2019, in Cagayan de Oro, I was absolutely determined to be there on the very first day.
This establishment is a family-owned venture, bearing the name "5C's," which pays tribute to the owner's granddaughters. During my visit, I had the opportunity to engage in conversation with the Head Chef, who also happens to be the owner's son. He shared that his culinary journey began in Cebu, where he garnered inspiration to embark on a business like this.

ABOUT THE PLACE
This is located inside The Venue (formerly known as Tent Avenue), Rodelsa Circle, Cagayan de Oro, Philippines
Business hours:
5pm to 12am, Mondays to Sundays.

THE DESIGN
I have a deep appreciation for art, especially when it involves transforming discarded items into valuable creations.

I mean, look! Steel barrel painted with yellow attaching their logo name.

It's undeniably charming to see them repurpose newspaper materials as wallpapers; it adds a unique accent to the place.

The overall ambiance of the food outlet exudes a cheerful and inviting vibe within the venue.
THE SERVICE

The Team 5C's is very welcoming. And I love how they try to meet their customers' demands.

Disclaimers:
Pungko Pungko is renowned for its "Ginabot," and the chef is currently in negotiations to include it on the menu.
Only one stall is permitted to offer beverages. I hope they consider serving smoothies and a variety of drinks, not just the usual cola options.
CHOICES of FOOD DIPS

I appreciate how they stay up-to-date with the latest trends. As we're aware, street food vendors in Cagayan de Oro provide an array of sauces, recognizing that people have diverse preferences when it comes to selecting dips for their food. I believe we can all concur on this.
NORMAL RICE over HANGING RICE

ADD ON BITS:
IG worthy?
It is.

How's the SOFT opening?

The store's soft opening took place on a Friday, a time when many people often choose to spend their Friday evenings away from home.
